About Us

We’ve created a new kind of Safety, Healing, and Hope: Peace.

The Family Peace Center of Washington County: Coming January 2026

A Vision Realized. A Community United. A Future Transformed.

The Family Peace Center is now open—and with it, a long-held dream has come to life.

We are a one-of-a-kind, collaborative hub where survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse, elder abuse, and human trafficking can access the full range of services they need, all under one roof. More than 20 partner agencies work side-by-side, providing trauma-informed care, legal advocacy, medical support, therapy, housing assistance, early childhood services, and more.

But this was never just about a building. It was about removing barriers to healing.

Why We Built the Family Peace Center

For years, survivors in Washington County had to go door to door—retelling their story again and again—just to get the help they needed. The system was fragmented, retraumatizing, and nearly impossible to navigate. At the same time, rates of family violence, trauma, and abuse surged—especially during the pandemic—overwhelming an already strained network of providers.

We knew we needed something different. Something better. So we came together.

What followed was a groundbreaking capital campaign rooted in partnership, persistence, and community.

Survivors, advocates, elected leaders, nonprofit partners, and community members joined forces to imagine a new kind of space: a centralized, coordinated, and deeply compassionate place for safety, healing, and hope. Through tireless fundraising, legislative advocacy, and design planning, the Family Peace Center became more than a vision—it became a movement.

And now, that movement has a home.

A Center Designed with Survivors, for Survivors

From the beginning, the design of the Family Peace Center was shaped by those who know the path to healing best: survivors themselves.

Guided by our VOICES Survivor Advisory Committee, the building incorporates trauma-informed elements at every level:

  • Curved walls and soft finishes that ease anxiety and eliminate harsh edges

  • Nature-inspired colors and artwork that reflect the landscapes of our region and offer a sense of calm

  • Large windows and adjustable lighting to create a sense of transparency, safety, and control

  • Separate entrances and secure pathways to maintain dignity, privacy, and accessibility

  • Spaces like the Healing Boutique, donation pantry, and laundry rooms, designed to meet practical needs with respect and care

Even the materials—oak wood, stone textures, natural light—were chosen to symbolize strength, rebirth, resilience, and hope.

This is not just a place to receive services. It is a place where survivors are believed, honored, and supported.

More Than a Building

Our mission is to work collaboratively with our community to provide a single location for prevention, intervention, healing, and hope. With the Family Peace Center now open, we’re delivering on that promise every single day.

We’ve created a new model—one that is holistic, evidence-based, and built for long-term change. Together, we are breaking generational cycles of abuse and building a future where families don’t just survive—they thrive.
